EVERETT — It was a strange time to be driving a Bobcat on West Marine View Drive, a witness thought.
It was a little before 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday. It was dark.
So the witness followed, driving a loader construction vehicle.
According to Everett police, a Snohomish man allegedly used the Bobcat to hit a security officer’s vehicle at Jeld-Wen Windows & Doors and then drove after the security officer, who got away to a safe place to call 911. At some point, the suspect abandoned the Bobcat, leaving the lights and engine on. He got into a box truck and drove through a locked gate, according to court papers.
Before he could get much further, the suspect was stopped by the witness driving the loader.
Police arrived at the scene at 300 W Marine View Drive around 10:30 p.m. to find the box truck pinned against a curb by a loader with its bucket partially raised. The suspect allegedly was still hitting the gas in an attempt to break free of the loader, with little luck.
Officers arrested the man, who was wanted on three warrants. The officers searched him and reportedly found a small bag of what they believed was methamphetamine.
A tool room at a nearby business reportedly was broken into and rummaged through, though it was unclear if anything was taken.
The suspect was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of theft of a motor vehicle, first-degree assault, second-degree malicious mischief and second-degree burglary.
According to another witness working security, the suspect did not work at the site.
