PORTLAND, Ore. — At least half a dozen activists in Portland have filed complaints against the city’s police as a result of last week’s Ferguson protests and other events.
The complaints were filed Monday with the city auditor’s Independent Police Review Division.
About three dozen protesters rallying in chilly weather at City Hall said they were angry about how police handled a march Saturday.
Ten people were arrested after officers lobbed “flash bang” grenades to disperse a crowd near a central transit area.
In a statement, Mayor Charlie Hales said the city won’t tolerate vandalism, dangerous behavior such as walking onto highways, or interfering with public transportation.
The protests come after a grand jury’s decision not to indict a white police officer in the fatal shooting of a black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri.
