BEND, Ore. — Sentencing for a defendant in the 2001 Redmond Five murder case has been delayed so the Deschutes County Circuit Court can hold hearings to determine if he is eligible for life without the possibility for parole.
Justin Link, now 32, was serving life without the possibility of parole for killing Barbara Thomas, 52, of Redmond when he was 17. He was among five teenagers, including the son of Thomas, convicted in the case.
The Oregon Supreme Court has reduced the number of aggravated murder convictions he faces and ruled he’s entitled to a new sentencing hearing.
The Bend Bulletin reports that a hearing to determine if he is eligible for a “true life” sentence without parole is scheduled to begin Tuesday.
