CAMANO ISLAND — A veteran state Department of Transportation worker was rushed by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Tuesday afternoon after being hit in a chain-reaction car accident on Camano Island, the Washington State Patrol reported.
Terry Linder, 54, underwent surgery and was listed in serious condition late Tuesday with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. He’s worked for the Transportation Department for two dozen years.
The accident occurred about 12:15 p.m. on Highway 532 at Sunrise Boulevard.
A Ford truck struck the back of a Honda Accord that was stopped at a red light, trooper Keith Leary said.
The pickup then veered into Linder and his work van.
Linder was outside his van. He was flown to Harborview with a serious leg injury, Leary said.
The pickup driver, 61, and the Honda driver, 57, were not injured, according to a state patrol memo.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Terry and his family,” said Lorena Eng, Northwest region administrator for the state Transportation Department. “Terry made many friends in his 24 years at WSDOT and we are all hoping for a speedy recovery.”
Linder, a Stanwood resident, was completing maintenance work on a traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 532 and Sunrise Road when the wreck occurred.
“The collision remains under investigation as to the cause,” Leary said.
