MUKILTEO – Heavy winds and rough waves pounded the Ivar’s Mukilteo Landing restaurant on Front Street this morning, buckling the waterfront restaurant’s deck.
Rough weather pushed up panels on the deck sometime between 5 and 7 a.m., said Kirsten Wlaschin, Ivar’s spokeswoman. A few employees were working in the kitchen prepping for the day and no diners were eating in the restaurant, she said.
The restaurant plans to be open as usual today.
This isn’t the first time the waterfront restaurant has taken a beating. The restaurant was closed for more than a year after an October 2003 storm buckled the floor, broke windows and washed away most of the deck.
The company is calling in the same engineers who worked on the restaurant’s remodel. Wlaschin said Ivar’s took painstaking measures during the remodel to reinforce the building.
