IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — Students in one rural school district in Eastern Idaho will get two extra days off from school because rains have delayed potato harvests.
The fall potato harvest break is a common tradition to allow students who are employed by potato farmers to help with harvest.
The Firth School District decided Thursday to extend the break by two days after farmers say an unusual amount of rain and cold in recent weeks has delayed potato digging.
Superintendent Sid Tubbs tells the Post-Register that farmers hire a number of students and would be in a difficult situation without them. About one-tenth of Firth students participate.
