Parents and high school students interested in Running Start are invited to attend information sessions at Everett Community College in February.

They can attend sessions at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 4 or Feb. 25 in EvCC’s Jackson Center, 2000 Tower St., Everett.

Running Start is a partnership between colleges and high schools in which high school juniors or seniors may take college-level courses and earn high school and college credit. Tuition is free up to 18 credits.

Students and parents interested in this program should contact their high school counselor as well as attend one of the information sessions. The deadline to apply for Running Start at EvCC for next fall is April 1. Call Enrollment Services at 425-388-9219 or 425-388-9211, or www.everettcc.edu, for details.

Kerri Burke, reading specialist for Monroe’s public schools, will be at the Monroe Library tonight to help families improve their children’s reading skills. The Family Literacy Night is at 7 p.m. at the library, 1070 Village Way.

Burke has many years of experience helping young people of all ages learn to read. She will share proven techniques for improving reading skills at all ages. A Spanish interpreter will be available.

Younger children may enjoy a storyteller while families tour the library and have a chance to apply for a library card.

Students and parents can take a self-guided tour of the campus, visit with instructors and learn how to enroll at the Sno-Isle TECH Skill Center’s open house in February.

The open house will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5. Sno-Isle is near the Boeing Co. at 9001 Airport Road with the entrance off Kasch Park Road.

Sno-Isle is a public technical school attended by juniors and seniors from 42 Snohomish and Island County high schools.

Students attend one of 23 vocational and technical programs. A complete list can be found at snoisle.mukilteo.wednet.edu.
