STANWOOD – Deputies found two young children home alone after someone reported hearing a child screaming inside a home for nearly four hours Wednesday morning.
Two children, ages 8 months and 21/2, were removed from the house in the 21500 block of Marine Drive after deputies were unable to locate their parents, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.
She did not have any further details about the children or their physical condition.
“Clearly, they were traumatized. They were screaming for hours,” she said.
Deputies were called to the house just before 11:30 a.m. after a witness reported that a child had been screaming for hours.
A deputy outside the house heard the screams. No one answered when the deputy knocked on the doors and windows or called for the residents to come out. The deputy did see the curtains in the front window move, indicating that someone was inside.
Deputies forced their way into the residence through a window and found that the deadbolt on the front door had been locked. They found the baby in a crib and the toddler hiding in another bedroom.
There was no sign of the parents, and police had not spoken to them as of early Wednesday evening, Jorgensen said.
The children were removed by Child Protective Services.
