50 years ago (1964)
Richfield Oil Corp. was to build a new “Y” type service station at 19th Street and Wetmore Avenue. At a cost estimated at $28,000, the firm would offer the newest in aluminum buildings, constructed to serve customers from both streets. Work on the stattion was to start the latter part of the month, and it would be ready in November. The station would be leased to an operator.
Looking over the new Kimberly Apartments, on Madison Street just west of Evergreen Way, which were open for preview showing this weekend, were James W. Bortner, owner; Richard A. Johnson, general contractor, and Edward A. Taylor, property manager from Werner Realty Co. The building featured 10 two-bedroom units.
25 years ago (1989)
The Snohomish City Library was starting to explore how it might grow to best serve the needs of patrons. Librarian Becky Buckingham said the facility had become a reference center for the eastern reaches of the county.
Mary Satter, a student at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, was to live with a family in Australia this school year. She was an exchange student with the Youth for Understanding’s 1990 program.
