50 years ago (1958)
Edith Madsen, assisted by members of the Washington School PTA, was in charge of arrangements for the school’s annual fiesta. Among the Everettes, a baton twirling group who would entertain at the program, were Marie Mallon, Michelle Fletcher, Chari Precht, Margo Fletcher and Patty Vander Yacht.
Workers of Associated Sand &Gravel Co. this week started work on a traffic artery that had long needed improvement, Walnut Street. A bulldozer near Garfield School was preparing to rebuild the street in concrete, after which it would be resurfaced.
25 years ago (1983)
The city was planning for the Everett On The Water Boat Show this weekend at the South Marina of the Port of Everett. The event was to include tours of two elegant showcase boats. General Hospital Health Care Foundation sponsored the show.
Apartment vacancies had edged higher in King and Snohomish counties and rents had slipped, according to the Cain and Scott Apartment Vacancy Report, sponsored by the Seattle-Everett Real Estate Research Committee. However, the rapid rise in vacancies since 1979 had come to a halt.
