Beverly Cassidy and Margaret Platt were getting in some practice for the pancake race to be held as part of the Everett Kiwanis Club’s annual pancake breakfast.
The race included three vital flips and catches. The winner would face the winning team from Bremerton for a trip to Disneyland.
Fire believed to have started from a misplaced cigarette resulted in considerable damage to the Everett Bowling Recreation at Hewitt and Rockefeller avenues. Four of the eight semiautomatic pin-setting units were ruined and the building suffered structural damage, according to new owner Gene Borg.
25 years ago (1982)
Soroptimist International of Everett, a women’s organization, offered a scholarship each year to aid an individual who, as head of a household, must enter or return to the job market or further her skills and training to upgrade her employment status.

A bulldozer was clearing rock and dirt debris from under the Bedal Creek Bridge on the Mountain Loop Highway recently. The bridge was buried in a flood in December 1980 and the streambed moved. After the stream was restored to its original route the road could be reconstructed.
