50 years ago (1957)
The Snohomish County Weavers Guild would hear Fred Messmer speak at their next meeting. Ruth Moody would continue her class on color. Final plans were being made on their bazaar.
A three day closure of Filbert Road to replace a bridge a quarter-mile north of Thrasher’s Corner would take place next week, county engineer Earl Barnwell announced. The wooden bridge that crossed North Creek would be replaced by a pre-cast concrete-paneled bridge.
25 years ago (1982)
Residents of Everett’s Port Gardner neighborhood were embarking on a historic mission. A workshop at Port Gardner School would include a slide show and lectures on the history of Port Gardner, followed by a training session on how to document historic resources. The final result would be a walking tour brochure and a planning document.
The Everett School Board declared Roosevelt Elementary School property surplus. It was the first step toward putting the old Beverly Park facility up for sale. No students had occupied the building at 6830 Highland Drive for more than two years. Assistant Superintendent Paul Sjunnesen said rehabilitating the structure wasn’t cost effective. Four Square Church and New Life Center was interested in buying the school.
