50 years ago (1957)
It was the first day of school in Everett. Cathy Clark said goodbye to her dog Spotty and trotted off to first grade at View Ridge Elementary. Garfield crossing guard Dick Curnutt crossed Daniel Spangler. The new Emerson School had about half again as many students as expected. Everett High topped 2,000. Excited seventh-graders headed off to North Junior and South Junior, but overcrowding meant some had to attend at Lowell and Madison.
25 years ago (1982)
Jeff Hegland’s dream come true was Turner’s Tavern, a small but popular establishment he opened 2 years ago on Hewitt Avenue. Named after Atlanta tycoon and sailor Ted Turner, the tavern had a nautical flavor. Sailboat photos covered the wall.
