50 years ago (1964)
Donald R. Pearson, Cn., son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Pearson of Lake Stevens, had been home on leave after completing seven months at Camp Kinser, Okinawa. Pearson, a member of the U.S. naval Seabees, was now en route to Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Playing at the Thunderbird Drive-In Theater in Marysville was “Whose Minding the Store,” starring Jerry Lewis. The co-hit was Walt Disney’s “The Incredible Journey.” Both films were in Technicolor. Starting tomorrow were “Island of the Blue Dolphins” and “A Tiger Walks.”
25 years ago (1989)
A Thurston County Superior Court judge yesterday extended a ban on clear-cutting near Lake Roesiger to give Snohomish County more time to appeal logging permits to a state board. The county prosecutor’s office said not enough time had been given to environmental study.
Only one year ago, Gary Long of Lynnwood received his first hour of flying time as a gift. This wee, he took his ultra light into the skies over Arlington to catch the kind of July sunset you just couldn’t see on the ground. He said it was a dream he thought he’d never experience.
