50 years ago (1964)
The daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Murdock, 3515 Friday Ave., had no B’s in their bonnets. Meredith, a college graduate, Candi, a high school graduate, and Christy, a high school senior this fall, had never had a B in school. Nor a C or D. All three were straight-A students.
Open house was being held today at Camwood, Stanwood’s newest restaurant. It would officially open tomorrow. Located in the old Hollywood Theater, Camwood Inn was owned by Joe Leeser, of Conway. Besides its dining room, it had a large banquet room.
25 years ago (1989)
A “drop-in” retirement party was planned for Bob Crumbaugh, director of financial aid and placement at Everett Community College, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Parks Union Building conference rooms A, B and C. A recognition program would begin at 3 p.m.
The Navy was searching for a 40-plus-acre site in Snohomish County to build a support services for the 13-ship homeport. The need for the land came in the wake of a congressional order to expand Everett base function and close some activities at Sand Point Naval Station in Seattle.
