50 years ago (1956)
Bailey African Methodist Church raised funds for improving its building at 2121 Broadway. Myrtle Steward and Carrie Edwards led the campaign. The pastor was the Rev. L.E. Scott, who was studying at Everett Junior College.
North Junior High School’s Boys Club joined the fight against polio when its president presented a check for $25 to the Snohomish County chapter of the Polio Foundation. Club treasurer Alan Johnson presented the check to Jesse Winter, North Junior faculty representative for the March of Dimes.
25 years ago (1981)
The retired senior volunteer program, under the direction of Barbara Nies at Senior Services of Snohomish County, had a way for people to become involved as RSVP volunteers. Helpers were needed for several jobs, including elevator operator, at Bethany Home during mealtimes.
Camwood Senior Center members made mints and accepted orders for special occasions. The mints could be made in all flavors and multiple colors, and came in half-pound or 1-pound boxes, director Belle Bourland said. The mints could be the extra touch for a wedding or birthday party.
