50 years ago (1956)
President Lawrence DeCan of the Men’s Garden Club of Snohomish County said the first meeting of the year would be at the Community Center in Legion Memorial Park. The guest speaker would be Thornton Sullivan, chairman of the Park Board.
The Sunnyside Girls 4-H Club made plans for a party when it met at the home of Marcia Rambo. The group would first go skating in Everett and then to the home of one of the members for a party. The girls also discussed plans for 4-H Achievement Week. The next meeting would be at the home of Merrily Ingraham. Members were to bring clothing that needed darning or patching.
25 years ago (1981)
Snohomish County PUD commissioners re-elected Roger L. Rice president after he was sworn in for a new six-year term. They also elected C. Stanford Olsen vice president and Jim Langus secretary. Olsen was selected as the utility’s representative to the Washington PUD Association and its member of the Washington Public Power Supply System board.
Lonnie Austin, a senior at Lake Stevens High School, was following in his brother Lyn’s footsteps as an excellent wrestler. The 6-foot-3, 178-pound athlete was undefeated.
