50 years ago (1955)
Three little munchkins – Terri Knudson, Laura Wood and Nancy Wynne – paid homage to Danica Lagozzino, who was playing the beautiful Lady of Oz. The four Junior Theater Guild players could be seen in dramatizations of “The Wizard of Oz.”
Tugboats were rounding up logs that broke loose from a raft anchored in Brown’s Bay and smashed into Brown’s Bay Boathouse in Meadowdale. The dock was demolished, pilings were torn from under the building and it dropped into the bay. F.A. Foss owned the boathouse.
25 years ago (1980)
Former Everett Mayor George Gebert died at age 83. He also had served as city commissioner of public works, had operated the shoe department at Chaffee’s, and later opened his own shoe store downtown.
The old truss bridge on Highway 530 between Silvana and Stanwood would be closed two weeks while a new girder span was opened. Louis Stanton, engineer for the $1 million project, said motorists would have to find an alternate route.
