50 years ago (1954)
Harold Nelson and Howard Vognild got behind in their work when the cart that collected parking meter coins tipped over onto Hewitt Avenue just east of Colby Avenue. Helping to clean up the gutter’s sweet “cent” were Leo Mullen of Owl Drug, Frank Heniges of Friedlander’s and Finance Commissioner George Culmback.
Converted to a floating cannery last year, the old ferry Rosario continued to be a cannery but no longer was floating. It was moved up the Snohomish River from 14th Street Dock and beached at 3862 Railroad Ave. It continued to operate under the name of Scheerer Canning Co.
25 years ago (1979)
The Milwaukee Road, which served eight Everett shippers and employed 14 workers here, was facing bankruptcy. They were seeking to reorganize into a smaller operation dropping all lines west of Miles City, Mont. Burlington Northern, the only other railroad serving Everett, was interested in buying Milwaukee’s track.
Audio Techniques recently opened for business at the Pilchuck Shopping Center in Snohomish under the ownership of Earl and Iris Hixson. Among store employees were Ken Milton and Randy Rieman.
