50 years ago (1954)
Dick Shaw Oberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence D. Oberg of 615 Maulsby Lane, left for West Point, N.Y., where he would enter the U.S. Military Academy. A recent Everett High School graduate, he was on the honor roll and tennis team and was active in several organizations.
Jimmy Davis and Janet Smith, recent winners in the State Roller Skating Championships at Skateland Roller Rink on California Street, left for Washington, D.C. to compete at nationals. They were accompanied by Betty Smith of Skateland.
25 years ago (1979)
About 200 people helped dedicate Everett’s renovated City Hall. On hand were U.S. Rep. Al Swift, former Rep. Lloyd Meeds and former Mayor Bob Anderson. The $2 million renovation was financed largely by the federal government. City departments moved from temporary quarters at old Roosevelt School back into the building recently.
John Sabutis was named controller for Blue Cross of Washington and Alaska. Sabutis, of Lynnwood, previously worked for General Telephone. Blue Cross served more than a million people.
