50 years ago (1954)
Lightning struck the Rest Haven Motel, 9025 Highway 99 during a thunderstorm, and also caused damage at the south end homes of Hal Fortin, F.N. Prater and Joe Moran. Pedestrians who could not reach shelter were drenched.
The Owl Drug Store at Hewitt and Colby avenues advertised POPular gifts for Father’s Day, including pens, cigarettes, cigars, cameras, billfolds, watches, shaving lotion, razors, brushes, combs, salted nuts and golf balls. The store’s phone number was Cedar 2222.
25 years ago (1979)
John Fluke Manufacturing Co. completed financial arrangements for development of an industrial park near the Boeing Co. assembly plant. The site also would be the company’s new headquarters, said vice president and treasurer Everts Johns. Blue Cross of Washington and Alaska had agreed to purchase Fluke’s Mountlake Terrace facilities.
Joe Dickinson of Monroe High School and Jim Powers of Lynnwood High School claimed top honors at the State High School All-Star baseball series at Enumclaw High School.
