"From Here to Eternity" was opening at the Roxy Theater. The film had just won the Oscar for best picture, as well as seven other Academy Awards. It starred Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Deborah Kerr, Frank Sinatra (best supporting actor) and Donna Reed (best supporting actress).
Lake Stevens High School juniors were presenting their class play, "We Shook the Family Tree." Members of the cast were Jack Rabourn, Ted Tastad, Lowell Stuffer, Terry Goodrich, Jack Hein, Marilyn West, Carol Kalicot, Rosetta Butler, Lucienne Warrick, Barbara Benthien, Shirley Kennaugh and Joyce Ingrum. Jean Rogers was the adviser.
Elna Webber received the Everett Sertoma Club’s Service to Mankind Award "for untiring and unselfish devotion to serving mankind in our community." Fred Johnson said Webber was chosen because she had been active for five decades in the community. Her son was noted Everett artist Bernie Webber.
Marcy Barthel and Colleen Hinkle were accepted as members of the All Northwest Choir, and Loreen Petty was named first violinist in the All Northwest Orchestra. The three Everett High School students were selected by audition tapes and performed in Billings, Mont., the previous weekend.
