To call attention to the United Good Neighbors campaign, members of agencies affiliated with the UGN were wearing their uniforms. Included would be Boy Scouts Tim and Jim Bortner, sons of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Bortner of 3414 Snohomish Ave.
Work on repairing Pier 1, a port-owned dock, was expected to get under way as engineer Roy Johnson was given the green light by the port commissioner to remove the dock’s north apron. Port Manager Walter Rappuhn said that no ship was to arrive at the dock before Nov. 6.
Thomas E. Kelly, Everett District Court judge, was elected president-elect of the Washington State Magistrates Association, a statewide organization of district and municipal judges. He would succeed Seattle District Court judge Frank Sullivan, who followed South District (Lynnwood) Judge W. Laurence Wilson.
Henry Whalen, Snohomish County auditor, was the new second vice president of the Washington Association of County Officials. Last year he was secretary-treasurer. He also headed the legislative committee of the State Auditor’s Association.
