50 years ago (1963)
Dr. George H. Drumheller of Everett was re-elected secretary of the American Rhinologic Society at its annual meeting in New York City this week. The society was devoted to the encouragement of scientific research into the cases of disease as related to the nose.
Everett High School would have two representatives at the western regional Youth Science Congress next week at Moffett Field, San Francisco. James Otto Jr. and Dick Weiss, both seniors, had been invited to participate in the congress to present their science research projects.
25 years ago (1988)
Rear Adm. Sigmund R. Petersen, who lived in the Hilton Lake area of south Everett with his wife and three children, was a Norwegian native who emigrated with his parents in 1948. He was a graduate of Everett High School, attended Everett Community College and graduated as a civil engineer from Washington State University.
The school bell at Trafton School near Arlington still had a peal. Jim Putnam, maintenance supervisor for the Arlington District, said he went up to check the bell about every two years. Students took turns ringing the bell to signal the end of recess each day.
