50 years ago (1964)
Mountaineer Ralph Mackey made it to the top. Mackey was named The Everett Herald’s 19th annual Man of the Year in Sports last night. H accepted the trophy in the name of the Everett Mountain Rescue Unit. A conqueror of Alaska’s Mount McKinley, Mackey had participated in many rescue missions in this county.
Sam Tisdel was one of the 306 Everett Herald Junior Dealers. He delivered in the area around 148th Street and Highway 99, rain or shine. The cost of the paper was only $1.75 per month, delivered to your doorstep.
25 years ago (1989)
Meadowdale Middle student Colin Schatz told how his alien could survive temperatures four times the boiling point. Classmate Brandon Martin told of his alien’s trip to Ultra 13. It was all part of Judy Kawabori’s classes for an out-of-this-world lesson fusing science, science fiction and English.
On the editorial page The Herald reminded readers of the importance of voting. The paper also encouraged voters to approve a levy that would add 200,000 new volumes to Sno-Isle libraries, and a measure that enable Snohomish to build two much-needed schools.
