50 years ago (1963)
Don Moe and Bob Pontler were painting the kitchen building at the old school patrol camp at Silver Lake. Members of the Evergreen Kiwanis Club gave park department buildings at the facility a new paint job. The buildings would play an important role in the park departments’ pilot program to establish a day camp for children with special needs.
Two Everett students were to attend a week-long Newspaper Workshop for High School students at the University of Washington under the sponsorship of the Everett Herald. The delegates were Andrea Papritz, a senior a Cascade High School, and Donna Solle, Everett High School senior.
25 years ago (1988)
Jodi Heintz, a Monroe High School student, earned an honorable mention in the 2nd Congressional District section of a national congressional arts contest. Among local judges were Bernie Webber and Rep. Al Swift.
Pay ‘n Save Inc., based in Seattle, sold all 147 of its stores to the California company that owned Thrifty Drugs for $232 million. Pay ‘n Save outlets in Snohomish County included three stores in Everett, and others in Marysville, Mill Creek, Lynnwood and Alderwood Mall.
