50 Years Ago (1964)
President Lyndon B. Johnson was re-elected, as was Senator Henry M. Jackson. Daniel Evans ousted Albert Rosellini as Washington governor and Lloyd Meeds did the same to Jack Westland for District 2 Representative. In other races Xon Baker was the new county coroner, Sam Kraetz retained his post as county commissioner and Tom Stiger was elected to the Everett Port Commission.
President Emerson Elder, Chairman Rollie Berry, Mark Whitman and Orvie Lange made like chefs as they gathered around a coffee urn to call attention to the annual Masonic Temple Pancake Feed.
25 years ago (1989)
Ed Bailey, activities director at Everett High School, mobilized a fund-raising effort for San Francisco earthquake relief among the 16 schools whose athletic teams competed in the Western Conference. The drive raised about $9,000, which was presented to the Red Cross.
Nine local public employees received cash awards from the state productivity board for suggesting ways to reduce costs and improve operations in state government. They were Mary Jo Hagen, Daniel Hults, Kathie Dolton, Paulette Stevensrud, Cindy Fisher and Susan Dawson, Everett; Julia Larcom, Arlington; and Kathleen McCarty, Mountlake Terrace.
