ARLINGTON — An Arlington man died Tuesday night in a three-vehicle crash caused by a suspected impaired driver along I-5 that closed all northbound lanes in Arlington for about an hour.
The collision was just south of Highway 530, according to the state Department of Transportation. The nearest exit was 172nd Street NE.
The Arlington man, 45, and another driver were on the right shoulder outside of their disabled vehicles. A 21-year-old Burlington woman allegedly went onto the right shoulder and hit one of the vehicles, a Honda Civic, which proceeded into the other, a Dodge Ram truck, according to the Washington State Patrol.
One of the disabled vehicles hit the two drivers on the shoulder.
The Arlington man died in the crash, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The other driver on the shoulder and the Burlington woman were taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett for treatment of their injuries.
“The collision involved 3 vehicles and the causing driver is currently in custody,” trooper Jacob Kennett said in a tweet. “Our condolences go out to those affected by this tragedy. Please drive safe this evening.”
