Baseball and soccer teams are not the only nationally ranked performers from Snohomish County in the running for state titles this weekend.
Whitney Hooks, a senior from Cascade High School, comes into today’s Class 4A state track and field meet in Pasco as the No. 3-rated girls shot-putter in the nation. Her best throw this season covered 49 feet, 2.5 inches, leaving Hooks 9.5 inches shy of the national leader, Allyn Laughlin of Pennsylvania (50 feet).
Hooks, who has signed an NCAA letter of intent to compete for the University of Washington next year, is a three-time state champion in the event.
She will go for an unprecedented fourth-straight Class 4A title when the shot-put competition begins at noon today at Pasco’s Edgar Brown Stadium.
