Small wildfire creates heavy smoke southeast of Centralia

MORTON — A small wildfire is burning on private timber land southeast of Centralia.

Karen Ripley of the Department of Natural Resources said the 10-acre blaze was reported about noon on Saturday in eastern Lewis County near Riffe Lake. She said it was producing a large amount of smoke.

Crews including firefighters and helicopters were trying to get control. The blaze was burning in steep terrain that includes recently logged areas and an 8-year-old tree plantation.

There were no evacuations or injuries.
