EVERETT — Snohomish County Council approved a new contract with the Snohomish County Corrections Guild last week.
The current agreement expires on Dec. 31, with the new contract to begin on Jan. 1, 2025. The contract is for a period of four years.
The contract includes several changes for about 150 guild members, including a clause that sets conditional voluntary overtime at 2.25 times their normal wages. Probationary periods will be increased from nine to 12 months and employees in good standing will be allowed to cash out their sick leave upon separation.
The new contract includes a monetary recruitment incentive.
Someone who successfully recruits someone who is then hired as a “Deputy Sheriff, Corrections Deputy, Mental Health Professional or Nurse (or other highly needed positions as identified by the Sheriff) shall receive a day of leave or pay at the employee’s option,” the contract said.
In one other change, non-discriminatory language was kept in the contract, but removed from the grievance process, a county report said.
Snohomish County and the Corrections Guild reached its current agreement in July 2023, a process that took two years to hammer out. Under that contract, corrections deputies received an 18% wage increase. Under the new agreement, corrections deputies will receive an annual 2% to 4% wage increase, which will be in line with similar positions in the Puget Sound region.
