EVERETT — The Snohomish Health District will close its immunization clinic after June 30 because the services are so widely available elsewhere.
“Health-care reform and increased access to insurance have dramatically changed the way people get many health care services, including immunizations,” Dr. Gary Goldbaum, health officer and director of the health district, said in a news release.
“Snohomish County is fortunate to have a growing number of health-care providers and pharmacies providing immunization services,” Goldbaum said, and “it’s the right time to transition our resources into other areas where we can have a greater impact on the community as a whole.”
The health district said it now serves less than 1 percent of the county population with immunizations, and visits have declined in recent years.
The agency offers child and adult immunizations — including for measles, mumps and rubella, hepatitis A and B and influenza — at 6101 200th St. SW in Lynnwood. Immunization services were moved there last month after a broken water pipe caused damage at the main clinic at 3020 Rucker Ave. in Everett.
The agency will continue to evangelize the benefits of immunizations, the health district said. And other services at the Everett location are unaffected by the change.
