Up to two inches of snow is expected to fall tonight in the Puget Sound region, with Everett and parts north getting hit the hardest.
At about 10 a.m. today the National Weather Service issued a snow advisory for the Everett-Seattle-Tacoma area. It will be in place from 11 p.m. tonight to 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Were expecting snowfall totals up to two inches, the heavier stuff will probably be north in Everett, said Johnny Burg, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Seattle.
Everett and cities closest to the water will get the most snow because of anticipated strong east-to-west winds. Because of the wind, foothill communities such as Gold Bar and Darrington likely will receive just one inch of snow, Burg said.
Tuesday morning snow is expected to turn to rain as temperatures rise, a combination that will likely lead to melting during the morning commute.
But be cautious while driving because conditions will be wet and possibly slippery, said Jim McBride, a state Department of Transportation maintenance superintendent.
Were putting plows on all our trucks in anticipation of snow, McBride said. A more accurate forecast is expected this afternoon. Well take a look at that and put the final touches on our plan then.
