SNOHOMISH — We may be looking to prove the superstition wrong. But most of us are hoping to prove it right.
Four reporters from The Herald will spend Friday night at the old Carnegie Building, better known as the Snohomish Library. It’s part of the Sno-Isle Regional Library System’s attempt to see if the library really is haunted.
A few years ago, stories were uncovered about library employees who had "sensed" or seen a ghostlike presence at the library. The Herald wrote about it in a story about haunted places in Snohomish County in October 1998.
This year, someone came up with the idea that the library system, of which the Snohomish Library is a member, could hook up its video camera to show the inside of the library on The Herald’s Web site through Halloween.
That allows anyone to watch for anything that may look like the ghost of Miss Catharine McMurchy.
It seemed only fitting, then, that some Herald reporters spend the night to see if McMurchy will show up on camera.
And that’s what we’re going to do, from 10 p.m. Friday until daylight Saturday. Feel free to check in on us on the Web cam, www.heraldnet.com. And we’ll let you know what we see, or think we see, in Tuesday’s Halloween Day Herald.
