PORT ORCHARD — Kitsap County sheriff’s deputies say it appears two squatters arrested this week in a modest vacant house in Port Orchard spruced up their temporary home with furniture used for “staging” at other homes for sale.
KOMO-TV reported that the two are accused of going online to real estate websites and finding furniture and appliances they could use.
Neighbors noticed the new occupants of the long-vacant home right away, introduced themselves and became suspicious.
Inside the home, deputies found brand new furniture. Police reports said some of it came from a nearby home for sale and belonged to a real estate agent who had staged the items to make that home look attractive.
Deputies say Doug Card, 44, and Lareydo McNeill, 23, were arrested for investigation of burglary and possession of stolen property. They’re due in court Monday.
