EVERETT — Stanwood announced a call for artists on Dec. 4 for the creation of an interactive public art piece as part of the city’s downtown revitalization project, a press release said.
The city, along with the Stanwood Camano Arts Advocacy Commission, requested artists submit proposals for a piece to be constructed within Depot Park located on 271st Street NW near the city’s Amtrak station. Currently, city officials have planned the park’s construction for late 2026 to create a “welcoming entry point to Stanwood’s historic downtown,” the release said.
Artists have until 11:59 p.m. Feb. 6 to submit their proposals. For the full project description and application visit scaacwa.org/callsforart. The selected artist will be notified in March with the public art piece’s installation scheduled for October, following City Council review.
The total project budget, including design, fabrication, installation and all related expenses, is $50,000.
“Stanwood is home to an incredible community of talented artists, and we’re thrilled to partner with them as we work to bring Depot Park to life,” Community Development Director Patricia Love said in the release. “Our goal is to create a fun, vibrant, and interactive art piece that residents and visitors of all ages can enjoy.”
The city’s downtown revitalization project began Sept. 8 when workers began improving Stanwood’s downtown roads. Along with Depot Park, the city is also finalizing design concepts for 270th Street NW with the top priority being the preservation of the historic street’s original brick.
“Public art is a powerful way to bring people together and celebrate the character of a community,” said Joanna Sikes, the Stanwood Camano Arts Advocacy Commission executive director, in the release. “This project invites artists to help define a welcoming new gathering place for Stanwood, one that honors heritage and inspires pride for years to come.”
