EVERETT — The Stanwood Police Department will host its first-ever academy for community members to get a behind-the-scenes look at police.
Beginning Sept. 16, the academy will be held 6-9 p.m. every Tuesday through Nov. 18, and is open to anyone 18 or older who lives or works in the Stanwood-Camano area, a press release said. Police will instruct the classes at Fire Station 99, 8117 267th St. NW in Stanwood.
Attendees will learn from Stanwood police and the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office on topics such as patrol operations, criminal investigations, narcotics enforcement, SWAT operations and community outreach.
This first-ever Stanwood Police Community Academy is “designed to foster stronger relationships between the department and the community it serves,” the release said.
“This is an opportunity for our community to understand how we serve, why we make the decisions we do and how residents can get involved in creating a safer and more connected Stanwood,” Stanwood Police Chief Jason Toner said.
Applications are open through Sep. 2 online at stanwoodwa.org/applyforacademy.
