Edmonds church installing new reverend

The St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 16431 52nd Ave., in Edmonds will install Sean G. Berry as its Reverend at 3 p.m. Aug. 30.

Berry completed his pre-seminary program at Concordia University before attending Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. Berry served his vicarage at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Garden City, New York.

County treasurer earns three national appointments

Snohomish County Treasurer Brian Sullivan received appointments to a trio of boards by Gary W. Moore of Boon County, Kentucky, president of the National Association of Counties.

Sullivan will serve as vice chairperson of the Finance, Pensions and Intergovernmental Affairs Steering Committee, as well as a special task force for International Economic Development and on the Large Urban County Steering Committee.

“Brian was chosen because I want to build a talented and committed leadership team for the nation’s counties,” Moore said.

As vice chairperson, Sullivan will work on financial resources, financial management, federal COVID-19 assistance, municipal borrowing, county revenues, federal budgets, federal tax reform, elections and Native American concerns. On the task force he will be positioned to aid Snohomish County ports and aerospace industries. The steering committee represents the nation’s 150 most populated counties to address their needs.

Edmonds educator earns national award

The NEA Foundation awarded Kanoe C. Vierra, teacher and dean of students at Scriber Lake High School in Edmonds as one of its California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence.

Vierra is one of 46 public school educators who will be honored at the NEA Foundation’s Salute to Excellence in Education Gala next February.

“I am proud to be one of the honorees and want to say, ‘Mahalo Nui Loa,’ which means, ‘Thank you very much’ to you and the Superintendent Staff for your openness, and support for our educators across the district,” Vierra said. “I am looking forward to the NEA Foundation’s Awards for Teaching Excellence Gala event in February and proudly representing the Edmonds School District.”

Snohomish Community Food Bank adds a board member

Susan Bouchard was announced as the newest member of the Board of Directors at the Snohomish Community Food Bank. She has volunteered for nearly three years handling client aide and intake, as well as administrative work.

Everett resident named WWU outstanding graduate

Last month, Western Washington University faculty recognized Moira (Marielle) Stockton as an outstanding graduate. An Everett High School alumna, Stockton completed a bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in Ancient Greek this June.

She made history as the first undergraduate to be published by the Journal of the Whatcom County Historical Society. Her essay, “’To Lie There Forever, on the Silver Crest of the World’: The Memorial Poetry of Ella Higginson,” was published in the December 2019 issue.

Stockton will attend the University of Pittsburgh to work on a master’s degree in Library and Information Science.
