EVERETT — Two Arlington Public Schools received major face-lifts with the completion of their summer construction projects on Monday.
The projects started at the beginning of summer break, upgrading the exteriors of Presidents Elementary School and Stillaguamish Valley Learning Center, a press release said.
A capital projects levy, approved by Arlington voters in February 2024, paid for the renovations after planning began in 2022. The cost of both projects was more than $4 million.
“We are so grateful to the voters and taxpayers of the district for this investment,” said Brian Lewis, executive director of operations for Arlington Public Schools. “The district’s capital program goals include extending the useful life of school buildings when feasible.”
Presidents Elementary received a new roof, new siding, several new windows, new paint and replacement gutters. Also, parts of the central kitchen were upgraded because it provides food services to all elementary schools in the district. The improvements included expanded cold storage and a new commercial dishwasher.
Stillaguamish Valley Learning Center is a collection of 11 portable buildings. The project provided four new roofs, new siding for all the buildings, new aluminum ramps replacing wooden ones, new exterior doors, improved pathways and repaired structural dry rot and fungal damage.
