Ricky Bargreen, junior, Lake Stevens High School

Lake Stevens bred: Attended Skyline Elementary and Lake Stevens Middle School before Lake Stevens High School. Enjoys water sports on the lake. “I really like the area a lot. I have lived in the same house my whole life.”

Solid student: Maintains a 3.98 grade-point average while taking a rigorous course load that includes college-level Advanced Placement statistics and biology classes. Could major in biology in college. Applying to University of Washington, Washington State University and Vanderbilt University. Vanderbilt? “My sister is an All-American rower at (University of) Tennessee. I think it would be kind of fun to be closer to her.”

Favorite movie: “Rudy”

Favorite book: “Les Miserable” by Victor Hugo.

Getting the picture: Started a photography club at Lake Stevens High this year. “I’m just kind of interested in photography. I’ve never really done much of it before.”

Academics and athletics: Spends most of his days at school. Besides tough classes, Ricky has had long hours on the practice field and wrestling mats over the years. Played quarterback for the football team and wrestles in the 171-pound weight class for perennial powerhouse program.

More on mats: Has wrestled since the first grade. Some of his favorite high school memories are from being part of the team. Returned from prestigious national meet in Minnesota on Monday after facing some of the country’s toughest high school wrestlers. “It’s just been a good experience. There’s been good coaching. I like what you learn from it, the hard work, being successful.”

Finding a balance: Wrestling takes discipline on and off the mat. “Keeping weight down and trying to keep up in school is a challenge.”
