Oprah hyped it.
Time magazine used it as the focus of a news story.
And The Herald’s own movie critic, Robert Horton, gave it a strong review in today’s paper. (He’s not alone in his praise.)
The much-anticipated documentary “Waiting for ‘Superman’” sees release today in the greater Puget Sound area. Three theaters in King County are showing it, although the movie has yet to roll out in Snohomish County.
So why are people are all wound up about this movie? Well, for one, it tackles the hot-button issue of education in the country. It attempts to diagnose what ails the public school system, putting a human face on the problems.
It’s also the new documentary from director David Guggenheim, the man behind another talker, “An Inconvenient Truth,” Al Gore’s global warming documentary. (An interview of Guggenheim by Horton will run in Sunday’s Herald.)
