EVERETT — Sheriff’s deputies have caught up to a man suspected of slashing a clerk on the top of his head in a gas station robbery south of Everett.
A man in a Chicago White Sox cap stole $3.08 in merchandise — a fountain drink and a pack of donuts — from the convenience store at 7:50 a.m. Thursday on 128th Street SW, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
The clerk confronted the man outside the store, grabbed his backpack and called 911. The suspect, 22, followed the clerk back inside and slashed his head with a knife, according to deputies’ reports filed in court Tuesday. He then ran off.
A surveillance camera recorded the assault. Images of the suspect were shared with news organizations and posted on social media. Deputies received an anonymous tip that led them to a south Everett hotel room where the suspect was taken into custody Monday.
The man denied committing the robbery. Witnesses provided statements saying he was bragging about it.
A knife was recovered by detectives, sheriff’s spokeswoman Courtney O’Keefe said.
