EVERETT — Police arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with last month’s fatal shooting at a south Everett apartment.

Ali Ramadhan is suspected of shooting Jeffrey Wehl during a robbery on Jan. 21 at the Candlewood Apartments on W. Casino Road. Wehl, 57, died two days later.

Everett detectives arrested Ramadhan on Wednesday. A tenant identified him as the man she saw running from Wehl’s apartment after hearing a gunshot, according to a police affidavit filed in Everett District Court.

A woman told police she was with Ramadhan when he fired the fatal shot. She was afraid for her safety and also ran from the apartment, detectives wrote.

District Court Judge Anthony Howard on Thursday found probable cause to hold Ramadhan for investigation of first-degree murder. The judge set bail at $1 million.

A man who identified himself as the teen’s father tried to ask the judge to explain what was happening. The judge advised the man to contact his son’s lawyer.

Ramadhan who appeared via video from the jail waved at his parents as he was led back to his cell. He has no criminal history. Police said he also is known as “Ali Baghdad.”

A tenant called 911 after finding Wehl wounded on the floor inside his apartment. She provided aid to him until paramedics arrived.

Witnesses reported seeing a man and woman running from Wehl’s apartment. The injured man was able to speak with police before first-aid measures prevented him from talking. He named two people and told officers the gun was still in his apartment.

Detectives found a revolver there. They also seized drug paraphernalia, women’s jewelry, candy and condoms in a baggie.

Detectives reported that the victim had posted ads seeking female roommates and found his profile on several dating websites.

An Everett police officer recognized the suspect in video surveillance taken from nearby businesses. Further investigation revealed that the teen allegedly had driven a stolen car to the crime scene. The car later was recovered and police found blood-stained mail addressed to Wehl inside.

Witnesses also told police that the suspect admitted he went to Wehl’s apartment to rob him.
