EVERETT — Investigators believe a man who allegedly drove the wrong way on the freeway during a police chase this week will be a danger to community if he’s let out of jail.
Jeremy R. Banner “cannot go a day without stealing a car,” a Washington State Patrol trooper wrote in an affidavit filed Friday in Everett District Court.
Banner, 24, was arrested Wednesday after a head-on crash on I-5 in Everett. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of possession of a stolen car and eluding police. A judge on Friday ordered him held on $15,000.
Banner had been released from jail on Tuesday. He’d been behind bars for allegedly stealing a Honda earlier this month.
Banner was in another stolen Honda on Wednesday night when he led police on a chase going the wrong direction on I-5 near Everett Mall, police said.
A sheriff’s deputy chased after Banner for about a mile going northbound in the southbound lanes. The chase ended when Banner crashed the stolen car into an oncoming car in the carpool lane.
The accident and the sheriff’s deputy involvement is under investigation.
