GRANITE FALLS — After two days of searching, locals found the Argentine black-and-white tegu named Tazz on Sunday.
The search group, made up of Tazz’s owner and community members, discovered the 10-year-old, 4-foot lizard in a barn about 1 mile away from his home, according to The Seattle Times.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office initially believed Tazz was a 10-foot alligator, when Granite Falls residents first spotted him on Friday evening.
Later, officials clarified he was actually an “innocent and docile” lizard, about 6 feet smaller than previously reported.
Tazz’s owner, Shanna Duncan, told The Times she isn’t sure how he escaped, but thinks there may be a hole somewhere in her home.
“I think the best thing that has come of this is the education that was made with him being lost,” she said to The Times. “So many people didn’t even know that his breed exists, and when they started to investigate, it was like, ‘Oh wow, reptiles aren’t as scary as we think they are.’”
