BREMERTON — Bremerton police detectives have arrested a 16-year-old Port Orchard boy for investigation of first-degree arson in the July 27 five-alarm fire that destroyed Arnold’s Home Furnishings.
The teen was arrested Thursday and was expected to make an initial court appearance today.
Detective Sgt. Kevin Crane says investigators believe the boy broke a window and started the fire that gutted the 66,000-square-foot store.
Crane says the boy and two other juveniles are believed to have been skateboarding in the area.
More than 100 firefighters responded.
The Kitsap Sun says police declined late Thursday to provide details of how the blaze was set and why the investigation focused on the 16-year-old. Crane says additional arrests are possible.
Store owners, in business since 1951, have already reopened at a temporary location.
