Teen charged in attack on her ex-boyfriend

LAKE STEVENS — A 17-year-old girl has been charged as an adult in connection with an attack on her teenage ex-boyfriend.

Prosecutors allege that the girl and another teen first struck the 17-year-old boy with a Honda Accord and then repeatedly punched him. Leigha Sweet is accused of stabbing the victim in the back.

Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Paul Stern charged Sweet with first-degree assault. He alleged that Sweet was armed with a knife during the attack.

Sweet was automatically charged as an adult because of the serious nature of the crime. She turned 17 in February.

The driver, Alexander Lamoureux, 19, is charged in Everett District Court with two counts of second-degree assault. Detectives believe he and Sweet were dating at the time of the incident. Prosecutors have until next week to refile the charges into Superior Court.

The assault happened April 29 along 102nd Drive SE. The injured boy was walking with two friends. Witnesses said the Honda appeared to speed up and drive straight at the group. The victim ran onto the grass, but Lamoureux allegedly pursued him. The car struck the teen.

A neighbor reported seeing Sweet and Lamoureux jump from the car and attack the boy, Stern wrote. She called police.

Witnesses said that Sweet had a small knife in her hand while she assaulted the teen. The pair fled before officers showed up.

Sweet’s father reportedly arrived at the scene and told police that the injured boy had assaulted his daughter. He called Sweet after officers informed him that the boy had been run over and stabbed. He told officers that he would help get Sweet to surrender.

She was arrested a short time later and first denied that Lamoureux struck the teen. She allegedly said later that they had “barely touched him,” because he was in the way of where they were going to park, Stern wrote. She also denied stabbing the boy, but later pointed the finger at Lamoureux.

She told police where they tossed the knife as they drove away.

Lake Stevens police issued a public bulletin last week seeking information about Lamoureux’s whereabouts. He turned himself in the next day.
