LYNNWOOD — Members of a suspected crime group stole over $12,000 worth of cosmetics from Alderwood beauty stores earlier this month, police said Thursday.
Around noon Jan. 30, a woman and a kid walked into Kohl’s at 18405 Alderwood Mall Parkway, according to a police report. The pair stole $4,444 of products from the Sephora inside and left in a silver Honda Odyssey minivan.
Two days later, the suspects returned to the Sephora and stole another $3,947 in products, police said. Officers arrived on the scene and arrested them for investigation of first-degree retail theft.
In their minivan, officers reportedly found a cooler full of Revlon makeup boxes.
Other stolen merchandise included products from Fenty Beauty, Makeup Forever and Urban Decay, according to police.
The woman, who indicated she was nine months pregnant, was booked into the Snohomish County Jail. An Everett District Court judge granted her release a day later, according to jail records. The minor was released back to their parents.
Police believe both suspects are part of a Romanian organized crime group that targets cosmetic stores. They are suspected of reselling products across the country for much cheaper than retail price.
It remained an active investigation this week.
In December, police arrested a woman in robberies that resulted in $450,000 in damage and lost merchandise at Ulta Beauty locations in Washington and Oregon. One store included the Ulta at 19401 Alderwood Parkway, less than a mile away from Kohl’s.
Correction: A previous story misstated where the Sephora store was located.
