GOLD BAR — A Ferndale woman who police say wandered into traffic on U.S. 2 and was struck by a pickup truck has died.
Theresa Jolene Jefferson, 49, died Saturday night at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Troopers believe Jefferson walked into traffic on U.S. 2 on Aug. 27. She was hit by a Ford F-350 driven by a Sedro-Woolley man, 19, trooper Keith Leary said.
The teen told troopers he tried to stop to avoid hitting the woman, but the woman continued to walk in front of his truck, Leary said.
The driver was eastbound on the highway and Jefferson was near the center line, he said.
Troopers are investigating whether Jefferson may have been drinking. She was rushed to Harborview, where she remained until her death.
