FAIRBANKS — Todd Palin and his racing partner have scratched from the 2,000-mile Iron Dog race because of a mechanical problem.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the pair scratched late Monday afternoon.
Palin, an Iron Dog veteran, is the husband of former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin. Todd Palin last won the race from Big Lake to Nome to Fairbanks in 2007.
In the race that began Sunday, Todd Palin was competing with Tyler Huntington for the first time. Among the 37 starting teams, the two had the slowest time to the first checkpoint at Skwentena, 89 miles into the race.
Executive race director Kevin Kastner says he didn’t have immediate details of the scratch, only that the pair had a snowmobile problem.
